Estline
Estline was a Swedish-Estonian shipping company that operated ferry services between Sweden and Estonia, primarily between Stockholm and Tallinn, from 1990 to 1994. The company was formed as a joint venture between Nordström & Thulin AB of Sweden and the Estonian Shipping Company (ESCO).
The company is most notably associated with the sinking of the MS Estonia on September 28, 1994, which remains one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters of the 20th century. The MS Estonia was owned by ESCO but operated under the Estline brand.
Following the disaster, Nordström & Thulin withdrew from the partnership. The remaining company, Estonian Shipping Company, continued to operate the route under the Estline brand until 1996 when the name was abandoned and the route was taken over by Baltic Sea Lines. The name "Estline" is strongly associated with the Estonia disaster, contributing to its eventual disuse.
