Kalasin

Kalasin is a province (changwat) in northeastern Thailand (Isan).

Location and Geography: Kalasin is situated in the heart of the Khorat Plateau. The province is generally flat, with gentle rolling hills in the north and west. The Lam Pao Dam, a significant reservoir, lies within the province and is an important source of irrigation and fish production.

History: The area of Kalasin has a long history of human settlement. Historically, it was part of the Lan Xang kingdom (present-day Laos). Later it became a tributary state of Siam (Thailand). Kalasin was officially established as a province in 1793.
