BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PF-8)
The BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PF-8) is a Gregorio del Pilar-class frigate of the Philippine Navy. Prior to its service with the Philippines, it was known as the USCGC Hamilton (WHEC-715), a Hamilton-class high endurance cutter of the United States Coast Guard. The ship was acquired by the Philippines through the Excess Defense Articles and Foreign Assistance Act.
The Gregorio del Pilar-class frigates are the Philippine Navy's first modern long-range patrol ships, greatly enhancing its maritime patrol capabilities. These ships are primarily utilized for maritime law enforcement, patrol operations, and search and rescue missions within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone. The BRP Gregorio del Pilar has participated in numerous exercises and operations, working with other nations' navies to improve interoperability and regional security. Its armament and sensor suite, although not extensive, provides a significant improvement over the Philippine Navy's older vessels.
The vessel is named after Gregorio del Pilar, a Filipino revolutionary general during the Philippine-American War.
