The Beths
The Beths are a New Zealand indie rock band formed in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2014. The band consists of Elizabeth Stokes (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jonathan Pearce (lead guitar, vocals), Benjamin Sinclair (bass, vocals), and Tristan Deck (drums).
Known for their energetic live performances and catchy, guitar-driven songs, The Beths have garnered international acclaim for their albums and EPs. Their music blends elements of power pop, indie rock, and jangle-pop, often featuring introspective lyrics exploring themes of anxiety, self-doubt, and relationships.
The band members met while studying jazz at the University of Auckland. They initially played together in various other musical projects before forming The Beths. Their early EPs, including "Warm Blood" (2016) and "Future Me Hates Me" (2017), gained them attention within the New Zealand music scene.
The Beths released their debut album, "Future Me Hates Me," in 2018, which was critically acclaimed and nominated for the Taite Music Prize. They followed up with "Jump Rope Gazers" in 2020, and "Expert in a Dying Field" in 2022, both of which were also met with positive reviews and further solidified their reputation as a leading indie rock band. The band has toured extensively, performing at festivals and venues around the world.
