Miracle (2021 film)

Miracle, also known as Miracle: Letters to the President (기적), is a 2021 South Korean period drama film directed by Lee Jang-hoon, starring Park Jung-min, Lee Sung-min, Im Yoon-ah, and Lee Soo-kyung.

The film is a fictionalized account inspired by the true story of a private train station built by local residents in a remote area of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, in the 1980s. It tells the story of Joon-kyung (Park Jung-min), a mathematically gifted high school student living in a village with no roads, but an abundance of train tracks. Joon-kyung is determined to build a simple train station for the benefit of his village residents, who must risk their lives walking along the dangerous train tracks to reach the nearest station. He persistently sends letters to the President, appealing for help in building the station. His efforts are aided by his resourceful sister, Bo-kyung (Lee Soo-kyung), his father Tae-yoon (Lee Sung-min), a train engineer, and his classmate Ra-hee (Im Yoon-ah), who supports his dream.

The film explores themes of community, perseverance, family, and the power of individual determination to create positive change. It highlights the challenges faced by people living in rural and underdeveloped areas of South Korea and the importance of infrastructure in connecting communities. Miracle was released in South Korea on September 15, 2021, coinciding with the Chuseok holiday. It received generally positive reviews for its heartwarming story, strong performances, and nostalgic portrayal of the 1980s.
