John Hastie (umpire)
John Hastie is a former professional baseball umpire who worked in the American League from 1978 to 1999. He wore uniform number 21.
Hastie's career included officiating several notable games, including the 1989 American League Championship Series, where he served as the home plate umpire for Game 5. He also umpired in the 1993 World Series, again calling balls and strikes behind home plate in Game 2.
Known for his consistent strike zone and authoritative presence on the field, Hastie was a well-respected figure among players and managers during his time in Major League Baseball. Following his retirement from umpiring, he has remained involved in baseball through various instructional roles.
