John Bowling (politician)

John Bowling (politician) is a Republican politician from Kentucky, United States. He has served as a member of the Kentucky Senate representing the 16th District since 1999. The 16th District encompasses Adair, Casey, Cumberland, McCreary, Pulaski and Russell counties.

Bowling served as the President Pro Tempore of the Kentucky Senate from 2013 to 2019. He previously served as the Majority Floor Leader. He has been involved in numerous committees during his tenure, often focusing on education, appropriations, and economic development.

Prior to his political career, Bowling was involved in education. He holds a doctorate and worked in the field of higher education administration.

Bowling was a candidate for Governor of Kentucky in 2019, losing in the Republican primary to incumbent Governor Matt Bevin.

His legislative priorities have often included issues related to education, rural development, and fiscal responsibility. He is generally considered a conservative voice within the Kentucky Senate.
