Farpoint (video game)
Farpoint is a virtual reality first-person shooter developed by Impulse Gear and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. Released in May 2017, the game is notable for its use of the PlayStation VR Aim Controller, a rifle-shaped peripheral designed to enhance immersion.
The game places players on a hostile, alien planet in search of a team of scientists studying an anomaly near Jupiter. Stranded after their space station is torn apart, players must fight their way through waves of alien creatures, primarily arachnid in nature, to uncover the fate of the missing scientists and find a way back home.
Farpoint features a single-player campaign, a cooperative multiplayer mode, and challenge modes. The single-player campaign focuses on narrative and exploration, while the cooperative mode allows two players to tackle levels from the single-player campaign together. Challenge mode presents players with score-based tests of skill against increasing waves of enemies.
The game's virtual reality environment is designed to create a sense of presence, putting players directly into the alien landscape. The PlayStation VR Aim Controller allows for intuitive aiming and weapon handling, further enhancing immersion. While compatible with the DualShock 4 controller, the Aim Controller is generally considered the preferred method of play.
