Maddalena de' Medici (1473–1528)

Maddalena de' Medici (July 25, 1473 – December 2, 1528) was a member of the powerful Medici family of Florence, Italy. She was the daughter of Lorenzo de' Medici (also known as Lorenzo the Magnificent) and Clarice Orsini.

Maddalena is best known for her marriage to Franceschetto Cybo, the illegitimate son of Pope Innocent VIII. This marriage, celebrated in January 1488, was a significant political alliance that strengthened the Medici family's ties to the papacy. The wedding was a lavish affair and further cemented the Medici's influence within Italian politics.

The union between Maddalena and Franceschetto produced seven children, including:

  • Innocenzo Cybo (1491–1550), a cardinal.
  • Lorenzo Cybo (1500–1549), Duke of Ferentillo.

Maddalena played a role in Florentine society and likely assisted her family in political matters, though less is known about her specific contributions compared to her more prominent male relatives. Her importance lies primarily in the strategic alliance her marriage represented and the notable offspring she produced, some of whom held important positions within the Church and Italian nobility. She died in Rome in 1528.
