Big Brother (Belgian TV series) season 1

Big Brother (Belgian TV series) season 1 was the first season of the Belgian reality television show Big Brother, which aired on Kanaal 2 and RTL4. It premiered on January 22, 2000, and concluded on May 12, 2000, lasting 112 days. The show featured a group of contestants, known as housemates, living together in a purpose-built house isolated from the outside world. They were continuously monitored by television cameras and personal microphones.

The housemates competed for public votes, with viewers voting to evict one housemate each week. The last remaining housemate at the end of the season was declared the winner and received a grand prize. The first season saw a considerable boost in popularity for reality television in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The winner of Big Brother (Belgian TV series) season 1 was Dirk de Ferrier. The season is remembered for introducing the Big Brother format to a new audience and establishing many of the conventions that would be followed in subsequent seasons both in Belgium and internationally. Key elements included the weekly nomination and eviction process, the Diary Room where housemates could confide in Big Brother, and the overall theme of social experimentation and observation.
