Robert Brudenell (judge)

Robert Brudenell (c. 1461 – 30 January 1531) was an English judge who served as Chief Justice of the Common Pleas from 1521 until his death.

Born in Deene, Northamptonshire, he was the son of Edmund Brudenell and Philippa Englefield. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn and became a Serjeant-at-Law in 1495.

Brudenell steadily rose through the ranks of the legal profession. He was appointed a King's Serjeant in 1504 and later a Justice of the King's Bench in 1508. In 1521, he succeeded Sir John Fineux as Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, a position he held for a decade.

Brudenell was a significant landowner in Northamptonshire and other counties. He played a role in local administration, serving on various commissions and acting as a justice of the peace.

He married Margery Entwistle and they had several children, including Sir Thomas Brudenell, his heir.
