Mud Lake (Arizona)

Mud Lake is a shallow, intermittent lake located in northern Arizona, specifically within the Navajo Nation. Its existence is largely dependent on seasonal rainfall and snowmelt. During periods of heavy precipitation, Mud Lake can expand significantly, providing temporary habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife. However, in drier periods, it may shrink considerably or even dry up completely, leaving behind a mudflat.

The lake's name reflects its characteristic muddy bottom, especially during its drying phases. The surrounding terrain is typical of the high desert environment, with sparse vegetation and arid conditions.

Mud Lake is not a major tourist destination, but it holds ecological significance as a water source in a dry region and may be used by local residents for livestock watering.
