Cameron Smith (rugby league, born 1983)
Cameron Smith (born 9 June 1983) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played his entire career for the Melbourne Storm in the National Rugby League (NRL), captaining both that club and the Australian national team, as well as the Queensland State of Origin team. He primarily played hooker, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest rugby league players of all time.
Smith debuted in the NRL in 2002, quickly establishing himself as a key player for the Storm. He won two NRL premierships with the club (2012, 2017) that count towards the team's official record, and was captain of the Storm from 2006 until his retirement in 2021. He also captained Queensland to a record eight consecutive State of Origin series victories from 2006 to 2013, and Australia to victory in the 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cups.
Smith holds numerous NRL records, including most games played (430), most points scored by a forward (2,786), and most goals kicked (1,308). He is a two-time Dally M Medal winner (2006, 2017), a two-time Golden Boot Award winner (2007, 2017), and a nine-time NRL Hooker of the Year. His leadership, durability, and skill made him an influential figure in Australian sport and a highly respected player both on and off the field. Following his retirement, he has worked as a commentator and media personality.
