The Party (1990 film)

The Party is a 1990 American comedy film directed by Blake Edwards and starring Herbert Lom. It is a remake of Edwards' 1968 film of the same name, also directed by Edwards. However, this version is largely considered a misfire and is not as highly regarded as its predecessor.

The film concerns a wealthy businessman, known only as 'The General' (Herbert Lom), who decides to throw a party to celebrate his business success. Chaos ensues, largely due to the eccentric and inept behavior of the party guests and the General’s own increasingly erratic conduct. Unlike the original, which relied heavily on visual humor and the improvisational talents of Peter Sellers, the 1990 version attempts to recapture the spirit of the original with a different cast and a revised storyline, but is generally viewed as falling short. The film received negative reviews and was not a commercial success.
