Petersfield (UK Parliament constituency)
Petersfield was a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election.
History
The constituency was created in 1885, primarily from the eastern parts of the northern division of Hampshire. It existed until 1983, when boundary changes led to its abolition. Its territory was then largely incorporated into the new East Hampshire constituency.
Boundaries
The constituency covered a rural area of eastern Hampshire, centered on the market town of Petersfield. Its boundaries varied over time, but generally included Petersfield and surrounding villages. In its later years, it also encompassed towns such as Alton.
