Jonathan Trelawny (High Sheriff of Cornwall)
Jonathan Trelawny (c. 1626 – 1704) was a Cornish landowner and High Sheriff of Cornwall. He belonged to the influential Trelawny family, prominent in Cornish affairs for centuries. He served as High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1653. This was a significant position, responsible for maintaining law and order, executing writs, and overseeing elections within the county. His shrievalty took place during the Interregnum, the period between the execution of Charles I and the Restoration of the monarchy, a time of political and social upheaval in England. He was the father of Sir Jonathan Trelawny, 3rd Baronet, a prominent clergyman and one of the seven bishops imprisoned by James II, whose case became a pivotal event leading to the Glorious Revolution. His activities as High Sheriff during the Interregnum reflected the complex political landscape of the time.
