Nāwahī (crater)

Nāwahī is a small lunar crater located on the far side of the Moon. It lies within the much larger crater Keeler, specifically on Keeler's inner eastern wall.

The crater is named in honor of Joseph Kahoʻoluhi Nāwahī (1842-1896), a Native Hawaiian legislator, newspaper publisher, artist, and activist. The name was officially adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2018 as part of an effort to recognize the contributions of indigenous peoples to the fields of science and the arts.

Nāwahī is a relatively well-defined, bowl-shaped crater. Its small size makes detailed observation difficult from Earth-based telescopes, but it has been imaged by lunar orbiters. The crater's features are typical for small lunar impact craters.
