Colt McCoy
Colt McCoy (born September 5, 1986) is a former American football quarterback. He is best known for his collegiate career at the University of Texas, where he led the Longhorns to a national championship appearance in 2009.
Early Life and High School
McCoy was born in Tuscola, Texas. He attended Jim Ned High School where he excelled in football, leading his team to a state championship in 2003.
College Career
At the University of Texas, McCoy started at quarterback from 2006 to 2009. During his time with the Longhorns, he set numerous school and NCAA records. He won the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in 2008 and was a Heisman Trophy finalist twice. In 2009, he led the Longhorns to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the BCS National Championship Game, where they lost to the University of Alabama.
Professional Career
McCoy was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played for several NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins (later Commanders), New York Giants, and Arizona Cardinals. He primarily served as a backup quarterback throughout his professional career. He retired from the NFL after the 2023 season.
