Alexander Park (Saint Petersburg)

Alexander Park (Aleksandrovskiy Park; Russian: Александровский парк) is a park located in the Petrogradsky District of Saint Petersburg, Russia. It occupies a triangular area bounded by Kronverkskaya Embankment, Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt, and the Kronverk of the Peter and Paul Fortress.

The park was established in the 1840s and named in honor of Tsar Alexander I. It was designed as a public space for recreation and entertainment, complementing the nearby Peter and Paul Fortress. Throughout its history, the park has undergone several transformations and served various functions.

Key features of Alexander Park include the Saint Petersburg Planetarium (formerly the People's House, now housing the planetarium and a theatre), the "Mini-City" historical miniature park displaying scale models of Saint Petersburg's architectural landmarks, and the Gorkovsky Theatre (formerly the Leningrad State Variety Theatre). Additionally, the park contains monuments and sculptures, including a monument to the destroyer "Steregushchiy" and various contemporary art installations.

Alexander Park serves as a popular recreational area for both locals and tourists, providing green space, cultural attractions, and historical significance within the city center. It hosts various events and festivals throughout the year. The park's proximity to the Peter and Paul Fortress and other notable landmarks contributes to its importance as a cultural and historical site in Saint Petersburg.
