Duty Free (film)
Duty Free is a 2020 Spanish comedy film directed by Rafa Montesinos. The film stars Alexandra Jiménez and Joaquín Reyes as Isabel and Óscar, a married couple whose lives are upended when Óscar loses his job.
The story revolves around Isabel and Óscar, who have been together for twenty years and are facing a mid-life crisis. When Óscar is unexpectedly fired, their carefully planned future – which included a dream retirement trip to the Maldives – is threatened. Desperate to salvage their plans and reignite their passion, Isabel convinces Óscar to take a wild, impulsive trip using the money they'd earmarked for their dream vacation.
The film is a lighthearted exploration of marriage, financial anxieties, and the importance of seizing the moment. It emphasizes themes of spontaneity, rediscovering love, and finding joy in unexpected circumstances. While often categorized as a romantic comedy, Duty Free also incorporates elements of road-trip movies as the couple embarks on their unplanned adventure.
