The Greens (Denmark)

The Greens (Denmark), officially known as De Grønne (English: The Greens), is a minor political party in Denmark. The party operates on a platform of green politics, focusing primarily on environmental protection, sustainable development, and social justice.

De Grønne was founded in 1983 as an offshoot of the anti-nuclear power movement which was prominent during that period. The party seeks to address a broad range of ecological and social issues, often advocating for policies such as renewable energy transition, reduced consumption, improved public transportation, animal welfare, and a more equitable distribution of wealth.

While De Grønne has never achieved significant parliamentary representation in the Folketing (Danish Parliament), they actively participate in elections and public discourse, often influencing the agendas of larger, mainstream political parties. The party's influence is typically greater at the local level where they have had more success in securing representation on municipal councils. They frequently collaborate with other left-wing and green parties on specific policy initiatives. Their political positions are generally considered to be left-of-center.
