Pendulum (Creedence Clearwater Revival album)
Pendulum is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, released in December 1970. It marked a departure from their earlier, more guitar-oriented sound, incorporating more keyboards and saxophone.
The album was largely written and produced by John Fogerty, who also sang lead vocals. It included the hit singles "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" and "Hey Tonight," both of which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other notable tracks include "Pagan Baby," "Sailor's Lament," and "It's Just a Thought."
Pendulum showcased the band experimenting with different musical styles, including blues, soul, and even some psychedelic elements. The expanded instrumentation and varied arrangements demonstrated Fogerty's increasing control over the band's creative direction.
Despite its commercial success, Pendulum was the last album to feature the classic Creedence Clearwater Revival lineup of John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford. Tom Fogerty left the band shortly after its release, contributing to the eventual breakup of Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1972. The album stands as a significant, if transitional, work in the band's discography, highlighting their willingness to explore new sonic territories.
