USS Miami (SSN-755)

The USS Miami (SSN-755) is a United States Navy Los Angeles-class submarine. She was the fifth ship of the Navy to be named after Miami, Florida.

Miami was commissioned on 21 July 1990 and served actively in the U.S. Navy submarine fleet. She participated in numerous deployments and exercises throughout her service life.

In May 2012, while undergoing a maintenance overhaul at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, a fire broke out aboard the submarine. The fire caused extensive damage, and while no one was killed, several firefighters were injured. Following the fire, the Navy considered various repair options, including a complete rebuilding of the forward compartment.

Ultimately, in August 2013, the decision was made not to repair Miami due to budgetary constraints and the availability of other submarines. She was decommissioned on 28 March 2014 and entered the Navy's inactive fleet.

As a Los Angeles-class submarine, Miami was equipped with advanced sonar, navigation, and weapons systems, including torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles. The class is designed for a variety of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, strike warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance.
