210th Division (Israel)
The 210th Division, also known as Division HaBashan (Hebrew: אוגדת הבשן, lit. Bashan Division), is a regional division in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It is subordinate to the Northern Command and is responsible for the defense of the Golan Heights sector of Israel's northern border, primarily facing Syria.
The division's primary role is to monitor the Syrian border, prevent infiltration attempts, and respond to any potential threats emanating from Syria. This includes providing security for Israeli settlements and infrastructure in the Golan Heights.
The 210th Division is a regular army division, meaning it is manned by career soldiers and conscripts. It typically includes a mix of infantry, armored, and artillery brigades, as well as combat engineering and intelligence units. The specific composition of the division may vary depending on the security situation and operational needs.
Throughout its history, the 210th Division has been involved in numerous conflicts and operations, including the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and subsequent operations along the Syrian border. The ongoing instability in Syria since the start of the Syrian Civil War has made the 210th Division's mission particularly critical in recent years.
