George Maximilian Anthony Grube (December 7, 1902 – November 21, 1982) was a classical scholar and professor of classics. Born in Austria, he emigrated to Canada and became a prominent figure in the field of classical literature and philosophy. He is best known for his translations and interpretations of Greek drama, particularly the works of Sophocles.

Grube received his education at the University of Toronto and later earned a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University. He then returned to Canada, holding professorships at Trinity College, University of Toronto, and ultimately becoming a professor at the University of Toronto itself.

His scholarship focused primarily on the ethical and philosophical dimensions of Greek tragedy. Grube's translations of Sophocles' plays, notably Antigone, Oedipus Rex, and Electra, are widely respected for their accuracy and accessibility. He also produced a notable translation of Plato's Republic. Beyond translations, he authored several influential books, including The Drama of Euripides and Plato's Thought.
