Comanche (1956 film)
Comanche is a 1956 American Western film directed by George Sherman and starring Dana Andrews, Kent Smith, and Linda Cristal. The film tells the story of Jim Bowie (played by Andrews) attempting to negotiate peace with the Comanche Native American tribe in Texas in the 1840s. The film is loosely based on historical events.
The plot centers around Bowie's efforts to locate and parley with a rogue Comanche war chief named Quanah, who is leading raids against settlers. Bowie believes Quanah's violence is fueled by misunderstandings and exploitation by unscrupulous traders. He sets out to prove his theory, ultimately hoping to establish lasting peace between the Comanche and white settlers. Along the way, he confronts prejudice, betrayal, and violence from both sides. Linda Cristal plays Margarita, a Mexican woman who is captured by the Comanche and assists Bowie. Kent Smith portrays an army officer tasked with controlling the volatile situation.
