Meritorious Service Medal (Canada)

The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is a Canadian military and civilian decoration that recognizes significant contributions to the betterment of Canadian society. It is awarded for meritorious service that is of a highly commendable standard, but not necessarily of a degree that warrants the award of the Order of Canada. The medal is divided into two levels: a military division and a civilian division.

Military Division

The Military Division of the MSM recognizes outstanding service by members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Appearance

The medal is a circular silver medal with a central emblem and a ribbon specific to its division (military or civilian). The obverse depicts the royal cypher, while the reverse features an inscription detailing the medal's name. The ribbon itself features a distinct pattern and colours.

History

The Meritorious Service Medal was established in 1984 and is awarded by the Governor General of Canada on the recommendation of the Chancellor of the Orders of Canada.

Eligibility and Nomination

Nominations for the MSM can be submitted by members of the public, organizations, or government agencies. A rigorous selection process is undertaken to ensure that only those who have demonstrated exceptional service are awarded the medal.
