NGC 476

NGC 476 is a lenticular galaxy located in the constellation Pisces. It is estimated to be approximately 250 million light-years away from Earth. This galaxy is part of the Pisces Cluster of galaxies. Lenticular galaxies, designated S0, are intermediate galaxy types possessing characteristics of both spiral and elliptical galaxies. They have a bright central bulge and a disk, but lack prominent spiral arms.

NGC 476 was discovered on October 3, 1864, by German astronomer Albert Marth. Its visual magnitude is around 14, making it a faint object requiring a relatively large telescope for observation. Due to its distance, individual stars within the galaxy cannot be resolved using standard telescopes. Astronomical observations and studies primarily focus on analyzing its integrated light and overall structure.

Further research has been conducted on NGC 476 to understand its properties, such as its radial velocity and redshift, which are used to estimate its distance and its movement relative to Earth. Like other galaxies in the Pisces Cluster, NGC 476 plays a role in understanding the dynamics and evolution of galaxy clusters.
