Ōrākei (local board area)

Ōrākei is one of the 21 local board areas in Auckland, New Zealand. Located to the east of Auckland's central business district, it is governed by the Ōrākei Local Board, which is elected every three years.

The Ōrākei Local Board area encompasses a diverse range of suburbs, including (but not limited to) Mission Bay, Kohimarama, St Heliers, Glendowie, Meadowbank, Remuera, and Orakei. The area is characterized by its coastal location, residential housing, and a mix of commercial and recreational spaces.

The Local Board is responsible for a range of local matters, including community development, parks and reserves, local environmental initiatives, and advocating for the area's interests within the wider Auckland Council framework. They manage local services, facilities and projects, implementing the Auckland Council's policies at a local level.

The name Ōrākei is of Māori origin, referring to a specific place and carrying historical and cultural significance for mana whenua (local Māori iwi).
