Sendai Station (Miyagi)

Sendai Station (宮城, Sendai-eki) is a major railway station located in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. It serves as the primary transportation hub for the Sendai metropolitan area and the greater Tohoku region. The station is operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East), and is also a terminal for the Sendai Subway.

History:

The original Sendai Station was opened in 1887. The current station building was completed in 1978. The station has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years to accommodate increased passenger traffic and to improve facilities. Damage caused by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami was repaired, and the station has since been fully restored.

The station has separate concourses for JR lines and subway lines. JR lines are primarily located above ground, while the subway lines are underground. Signage is available in Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese to assist travelers. There are also information counters and tourist information centers located within the station.
