John Ballantine (banker)

John Ballantine (1815 – 1895) was a Scottish-American banker, businessman, and politician. He is primarily known for his role in the banking industry and for his involvement in civic affairs in Newark, New Jersey.

Born in Scotland, Ballantine immigrated to the United States and settled in Newark, where he became a prominent figure in the local business community. He joined the banking firm of Merchants' National Bank of Newark, eventually rising to become its president. Under his leadership, the bank played a significant role in the economic development of the city.
