Šaukotas
Šaukotas is a Lithuanian cheese traditionally made in the Šiauliai region. It is a mature, hard cheese, often formed into distinctive shapes such as cones or balls, and then dried. Šaukotas is made from cow's milk and has a strong, slightly sour and salty flavor. Its texture is crumbly and firm. Due to its low moisture content, it can be stored for extended periods. The production process involves curdling the milk, pressing out the whey, shaping the curds, and then drying the cheese for several weeks or months. It is often enjoyed as a table cheese, grated over dishes, or used in traditional Lithuanian cuisine.
