Ray Wood

Ray Wood (1931-2002) was an American soccer goalkeeper. He is best known for being a member of the United States national team that surprisingly defeated England 1-0 at the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, a match often referred to as "The Miracle on Grass."

Wood's club career included stints with several teams in the American Soccer League, including the Philadelphia Nationals, Uhrik Truckers, and Ukrainian Nationals. He earned 14 caps for the United States national team, representing his country in various international competitions.

Following his playing career, Wood remained involved in soccer, coaching youth teams and promoting the sport within his community. He was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1993.

His contribution to the "Miracle on Grass" game and his subsequent efforts to nurture soccer in the United States cemented his legacy as a significant figure in American soccer history.
