Henry Smith (British politician)

Henry Smith (born 28 May 1969) is a British Conservative Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Crawley since 2010.

Smith was educated at Langley Green Primary School and Hazelwick School in Crawley. Before entering Parliament, he worked in business and public affairs. He served as a councillor on West Sussex County Council, representing Crawley, from 2005 to 2009.

Smith was first elected to the House of Commons in the 2010 general election, defeating Labour incumbent Laura Moffatt. He increased his majority in subsequent elections in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

During his time in Parliament, Smith has served on a number of select committees, including the Foreign Affairs Committee. He has been a vocal advocate for animal welfare and has campaigned on issues such as trophy hunting and the ivory trade. He also takes a particular interest in aviation and aerospace industries, given the presence of Gatwick Airport in his constituency.

Smith is generally considered to be on the right wing of the Conservative Party. He is a Eurosceptic and supported Brexit in the 2016 referendum. He has also voted in favour of measures such as increasing tuition fees and reducing public spending.
