Nightwatch (album)
Nightwatch is a double live album by the progressive rock band King Crimson, released in 1974. It documents performances from a concert given at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on November 23, 1973, during the tour for their album Starless and Bible Black.
The album is notable for capturing the band's improvisational prowess and the raw energy of their live performances during this period. The lineup at the time consisted of Robert Fripp (guitar, Mellotron), John Wetton (bass guitar, vocals), David Cross (violin, Mellotron), and Bill Bruford (drums, percussion).
The title, Nightwatch, is taken from a segment featuring a violin solo by David Cross played over the introduction to the evening news on Dutch television, which was being broadcast live during the performance and inadvertently recorded.
The album features extended improvisations, as well as live versions of songs from their studio albums. It is considered by many fans to be one of King Crimson's finest live recordings, showcasing the band at a creative peak. The album demonstrates a wide range of musical styles, from delicate and melodic passages to intense and aggressive rock.
