Punch (cigar)

Punch is a well-known brand of cigars, particularly appreciated for its medium-bodied flavor profile and use of high-quality tobacco. The brand was founded in 1840 by Stockmann & Co. in Havana, Cuba. It is one of the oldest and most respected cigar brands in the world. The name "Punch" is derived from the popular 19th-century British puppet show, Mr. Punch. The cigar boxes and bands traditionally feature a depiction of Mr. Punch, often surrounded by his iconic cast of characters.

Following the Cuban Revolution, the brand, like many others, was nationalized. The rights to produce Punch cigars outside of Cuba were eventually acquired by Villazon & Co., which was later purchased by General Cigar Company. Therefore, there are now two distinct lines of Punch cigars: those produced in Cuba by Habanos S.A., and those produced in Honduras by General Cigar Company.

The Cuban Punch cigars are considered by many to be the original and higher-quality versions, noted for their complex flavors and classic Cuban tobacco characteristics. They generally command higher prices.

The Honduran Punch cigars, while produced outside of Cuba, still maintain a loyal following due to their consistent quality and more accessible price point. They often utilize a blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Dominican tobaccos.

Both the Cuban and Honduran lines offer a variety of sizes and blends to cater to different preferences. Common sizes include Corona, Robusto, and Churchill. The brand is widely available and enjoyed by cigar enthusiasts globally.
