Gus Suhr
Gus Suhr (July 3, 1905 – August 5, 1968) was an American first baseman in Major League Baseball who played primarily for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Suhr began his Major League career in 1930 with the Pirates and became their starting first baseman. He was known for his durability, playing in 822 consecutive games from 1931 to 1937, a National League record at the time. While not a power hitter, Suhr was a consistent run producer and a solid defensive player. He was considered a reliable and steady presence in the Pirates' lineup.
After nine seasons with Pittsburgh, Suhr was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1939. He played one season for the Phillies before retiring. Following his playing career, Suhr managed in the minor leagues.
