Chukudum
Chukudum refers to a homemade vehicle, typically a tricycle or four-wheeled contraption, prevalent in some parts of Nigeria, particularly in rural areas and smaller towns. These vehicles are usually constructed using scrap metal, wood, and other readily available materials. Chukudums serve primarily as a means of transportation for goods and people over short distances, often used for hauling farm produce, firewood, and other heavy items. They are typically human-powered, though some may be modified with small engines. Due to their artisanal construction and reliance on salvaged materials, chukudums vary significantly in design and robustness. They represent a practical and resourceful solution to transportation challenges in areas where access to more conventional vehicles is limited or unaffordable. The term "chukudum" is onomatopoeic, mimicking the sound the vehicle often makes while in motion.
