John Glenn (judge)
John Glenn (1833-1921) was a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
Biography
Born in Elkton, Maryland, Glenn received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1852 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1854. He entered private practice in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1854 to 1882. During the American Civil War, Glenn served as a major in the Confederate States Army. He was later a United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1882 to 1886.
Judicial Service
Glenn received a recess appointment from President Grover Cleveland on January 14, 1886, to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland vacated by Thomas John Morris. He was nominated to the same position by President Cleveland on January 21, 1886. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 25, 1886, and received his commission on January 27, 1886. Glenn served in that capacity until his retirement on March 3, 1913. He died in 1921.
