Chris Fagan (coach)
Chris Fagan is an Australian rules football coach and former player. He is currently the senior coach of the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Fagan's playing career was relatively brief, spent primarily in the Tasmanian Football League (TFL) and Victorian Football Association (VFA). He transitioned into coaching early, developing a strong reputation as a development coach and administrator.
Prior to joining the Brisbane Lions, Fagan spent a significant portion of his career at the Hawthorn Football Club. He held various roles at Hawthorn, including assistant coach, general manager of football operations, and head of coaching and development. During his time there, he was a key figure in the club's dominant era, which saw them win four premierships (2008, 2013, 2014, and 2015). He is credited with developing strong relationships with players and fostering a positive team culture.
He was appointed senior coach of the Brisbane Lions in late 2016. Tasked with rebuilding the club, Fagan has overseen a period of significant improvement and resurgence for the Lions, guiding them back into finals contention after a long period of underperformance. He is known for his player-centric approach, his emphasis on leadership development, and his strategic acumen. His coaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, resilience, and a strong defensive structure.
