Shternberg (crater)

Shternberg is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the northeast of the huge walled plain Mendeleev, and south-southeast of the crater Bergman.

The rim of Shternberg is somewhat eroded, with several small craters lying along the edge. The interior floor is relatively level, with a cluster of small craters near the midpoint. A notable smaller crater is superimposed on the southeast rim. Due to its location on the far side, this crater cannot be viewed directly from the Earth, and can only be seen from spacecraft. The crater is named after the Russian astronomer Pavel Shternberg.
