Tom Foley (infielder)

Tom Foley (born September 5, 1959) is a former Major League Baseball infielder. He played primarily shortstop and second base for four different teams over a 13-year career.

Foley was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 9th round of the 1977 MLB draft. He made his major league debut with the Reds on April 16, 1983. After playing parts of four seasons with Cincinnati, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in December 1986. He spent five seasons with the Phillies, enjoying his most productive years.

Following his time with Philadelphia, Foley played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992 and the Montreal Expos in 1993. He was known as a versatile and reliable utility player, valued for his defensive skills and ability to play multiple positions. While not a power hitter, he was a consistent contact hitter who could get on base.

After his playing career, Foley transitioned into coaching. He has served as a coach for several Major League Baseball teams, including the Tampa Bay Rays, where he spent many years as the third base coach. He has also worked in player development roles.
