It's All Right! (TV series)
It's All Right! (Japanese: 大丈夫だぁ, Hepburn: Daijōbudaa) was a popular Japanese sketch comedy television show starring Ken Shimura, and later featuring his comedy partner Cha Kato. The show was known for its slapstick humor, elaborate costumes and sets, and often risqué content, including cross-dressing and sexual innuendo.
It's All Right! aired on Fuji Television from 1987 to 1993. The program built upon the success of Shimura and Kato's previous work with The Drifters comedy group, showcasing their distinct comedic styles. Shimura's character-based humor and Kato's physical comedy were central to the show's appeal.
The show's format typically involved a series of short, unrelated sketches, featuring recurring characters and catchphrases. These sketches often parodied everyday life situations, popular culture, and historical events. While primarily targeted at an adult audience, the show also gained a significant following among younger viewers, despite its sometimes suggestive content.
It's All Right! remains a significant part of Japanese television history, remembered for its influence on subsequent comedy programs and its role in solidifying Ken Shimura's status as a comedic icon. The show has been rerun numerous times and remains popular through online clips and compilations.
