Vigiljoch

Vigiljoch is a mountain pass and a small mountain in South Tyrol, Italy. Situated above the town of Lana in the Burggrafenamt district, it is a popular destination for hiking, mountain biking, and skiing.

The Vigiljoch mountain (also sometimes referred to as Monte San Vigilio) reaches an elevation of approximately 1,793 meters (5,883 feet) above sea level. The pass itself is lower, located around 1,500 meters.

Historically, the Vigiljoch served as an important connection between Lana and the Ulten Valley. While its importance as a major transportation route has diminished with modern infrastructure, it remains significant for tourism and recreation.

The area is characterized by its diverse flora and fauna, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. A cable car connects Lana directly to the Vigiljoch, making it easily accessible to visitors. Amenities on the mountain include restaurants, guesthouses, and hiking trails of varying difficulty. In winter, the Vigiljoch transforms into a small but family-friendly ski resort.
