Daniel Stewart (brigadier general)
Daniel Stewart (1761 – 1829) was an American planter, militia officer, and politician from the state of Georgia. He achieved the rank of brigadier general in the Georgia militia.
Born in Liberty County, Georgia, Stewart was a prominent landowner and slaveholder. He served in the Georgia legislature for many years, representing Liberty County. He held various positions, including state senator and member of the Georgia House of Representatives. He was a strong advocate for states' rights and supported the institution of slavery.
Stewart is most notable as the great-great-grandfather of President Theodore Roosevelt and the great-great-great-grandfather of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. His descendants played significant roles in American politics and society. The lineage connecting him to the Roosevelts brought him posthumous recognition. He died in Liberty County, Georgia.
