Snargate
Snargate is a small, scattered settlement and civil parish in the Folkestone and Hythe district of Kent, England. Situated on Romney Marsh, it lies approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) west of New Romney.
Historically, Snargate was a more significant port than it is today. Its location on the Romney Marsh network of waterways allowed for trade and transport, contributing to its former importance. However, silting of the waterways and the changing geography of the marsh gradually diminished its role as a port.
The parish church of St Dunstan is located in Snargate. The church is a Grade I listed building and dates back to the 12th century, although it has undergone various alterations and renovations over the centuries. The church is known for its distinctive Romney Marsh architecture and its historical significance.
The population of Snargate is relatively small and has remained so for many years. It is a rural community primarily engaged in agriculture and related activities. The village offers a tranquil and picturesque setting within the expansive landscape of Romney Marsh.
