Presteid
Presteid is a village in the municipality of Seljord in Telemark county, Norway. It serves as the administrative center of Seljord municipality. The village is situated along the western shore of Lake Seljordsvatnet and near the Seljord Church, a medieval stone church that dates back to the 12th century.
The economy of Presteid is largely based on agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The village is a popular destination for tourists due to its scenic location, proximity to Lake Seljordsvatnet (known for its legendary sea serpent, Selma), and the historic Seljord Church. Several businesses cater to tourists, including hotels, campgrounds, and shops.
Presteid is connected to other parts of Telemark via the European route E134 highway, which passes through the village. Local buses also provide transportation services.
The name "Presteid" literally translates to "Priest's isthmus" or "Priest's neck of land," likely referring to the land formation near the church and its historical association with religious authorities.
