Fu Rong (Three Kingdoms)

Fu Rong was a military general who served under the state of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. Specific details about his life and career are relatively scarce compared to more prominent figures of the era. He is primarily remembered for his bravery and loyalty, particularly during the defense of Chengdu against Cao Wei forces following the fall of Shu Han in 263 AD.

According to historical accounts, after Deng Ai's surprise capture of Jiangyou and subsequent advance towards Chengdu, the final Shu emperor Liu Shan decided to surrender. However, Fu Rong refused to submit. He reportedly donned his armor and charged towards the invading Wei forces in a desperate attempt to repel them and defend the Shu Han capital. Despite his valiant efforts, Fu Rong was ultimately overwhelmed and killed in battle, choosing death over surrender.

His sacrifice is often cited as an example of unwavering loyalty and devotion to his state, even in the face of inevitable defeat. While his contributions to Shu Han's military campaigns prior to the final invasion are not well-documented, his final act of defiance solidified his place in the annals of the Three Kingdoms period. He is often compared to other loyal retainers who chose death over dishonor.
