John Lee (Labour politician)
John Lee (born 1942) is a British Labour Party politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nelson and Colne from 1974 to 1979.
Born in 1942, Lee was educated at Colne Grammar School and the University of Leeds. Before entering Parliament, he worked as a teacher.
Lee won the Nelson and Colne seat in the February 1974 general election, defeating the Conservative incumbent, David Waddington. He retained the seat in the October 1974 general election.
During his time in Parliament, Lee was a member of the Tribune Group, a left-wing group of Labour MPs. He was known for his advocacy on issues related to education and employment.
Lee lost his seat in the 1979 general election to David Waddington, who regained the constituency for the Conservatives.
After leaving Parliament, Lee returned to teaching. He has remained active in local politics and community affairs.
