Perfection (board game)

Perfection is a shape-sorting puzzle game invented by Charles Molnar and originally manufactured by the Minnesota-based company H. Weisshaupt & Co. in 1973. Later, it was produced by Milton Bradley and subsequently by Hasbro. The game is designed for one player and tests speed and dexterity.

The object of Perfection is to fit 25 uniquely shaped pieces into matching holes on a game board before a timer runs out, causing the board to spring open and eject the pieces. The timer is typically set to 60 seconds. The game board is a hinged plastic case that contains the shapes and also houses the spring-loaded mechanism.

Gameplay involves quickly identifying each shape and its corresponding slot on the board. This requires visual discrimination and hand-eye coordination. Success depends on the player's ability to quickly recognize the shapes and accurately place them within the time limit.

The game has been marketed toward children, but its fast-paced nature can be enjoyed by players of all ages. It is often seen as a toy that helps develop problem-solving skills, spatial reasoning, and fine motor skills.

Over the years, Perfection has been released in various editions and themed versions, often incorporating licensed characters and updated designs. Despite these variations, the core gameplay mechanic of fitting shapes before the timer expires has remained consistent.
